Riv Shapiro (they/them) is a queer mixed-lineage Ashkenazi multi-modal artist, educator and Kohenet, and a 5th generation guest on Dakota land. Their creative work is process-oriented and often participatory, reveling in the intersections of ancestors, interspecies relationship, justice, queerness and spirituality. Blending the roles of Educator, Priestess, Artist and Producer, Riv is dedicated to sharing the wisdom and the medicine of their Jewish ancestors through adaptive, accessible, and liberatory means. In their current role as the Minnesota JCC's Arts & Culture Producer, Riv produces and co-directs the Twin Cities Jewish Film Festival and Twin Cities Jewish Humor Fest, and founded Bo'u Nashir - a new series of Jewish communal music experiences.
